NEWA FORESTED HILL EXPERIMENT KASSEL - EXPERIMENT DOCUMENTATION

The NEWA Forested Hill Experiment Kassel was a field campaign conducted within the EU project – New European Wind Atlas NEWA. The experiment provides a unique dataset of wind measurements for validating models for flow over forested hilly terrain. It was performed around the »Rödeser Berg«, a hill located 20;km northwest of Fraunhofer IEE Kassel, Germany. The experiment consisted of a 3;month intensive campaign and a 1;year long-term campaign (November 2016 to October 2017). In total 17;wind measurement systems were used: 9 long-range Doppler scanning lidars, 6;lidar/sodar vertical wind profilers and 2 tall met masts.By the end of the NEWA project all experimental data will be freely available. The measurement data will be provided in NetCDF format. This technical report provides a detailed documentation of the field campaign.
